CANCER PATIENTS' SUPPORT GROUP - PAPHOS
The Group was formed in June 1995, to help the Cyprus
Association of Cancer Patients and Friends, by providing
financial assistance and donating medical equipment
towards the HOME CARE NURSING SERVICE in Paphos.
Apart from 'money raising activities' the Group has a
number of members who volunteer a support service for
anyone affected by cancer e.g. Transport; Respite care
to give the family a break; essential shopping and
general help.
EVERYONE IN THE GROUP WORKS ENTIRELY ON A VOLUNTARY
BASIS.
THE CYPRUS ASSOCIATION OF CANCER PATIENTS and FRIENDS
(PASYKAF)
It is an Island-wide organisation with its Headquarters
in Nicosia. It was formed in 1986 by a small group of
cancer patients, their families and their friends who
realised a need for such an organisation. There are
District offices now in Paphos (1994), Nicosia, Larnaca,
Limassol.
Every district runs its own facilities. The Government
contributes approx CyP30,000 to the organisation - Paphos
alone needs over CyP250,000 per annum to keep its services
running. The Association provides Home Care Nursing
(similar to Macmillan Nurses in the UK). They provide
activities in the Day Centre, which include Self-help
group therapy, volunteer group training, music and
stress therapy and creative therapy (which includes arts
and crafts), support groups for patients and their
children, reflexology, aromatherapy, Bowen technique and
Reiki. A free Mini-bus service is also provided to
transport patients to and from Nicosia for their various
treatments.
THE SUPPORT GROUP OF PAPHOS THEREFORE HELPS BY RAISING
MONEY FOR EQUIPMENT, HELPING WITH THE NURSES SALARIES
ETC. ALL MONIES RAISED BY THE PAPHOS SUPPORT GROUP GOES
TO THE SUPPORT THE HOME CARE NURSING SERVICES.
